The hands-down favorite anthem of four YouthCUE International Chorus groups, "Bound for the Promised Land" is a barn-burner that, once mastered, almost sings itself. Instrumental parts add sparkling color, but the four-hands of the piano is almost a full substitute for full orchestra.

For students, this anthem is probably best sung in Festival settings, but larger youth choirs will enjoy the challenge of singing this exciting music for their own congregations. Bravo to Mack Wilberg ... again!

The Bottom Line

Pros
Exciting and exceedingly fun to sing
Cons
Make certain it sounds as good as it is fun!

This is an exciting setting and worth the time. It works better with large choirs that can put out a lot of sound. The orchestration makes the piece. It is easy for it to "run away" tempo wise, but the choir can be trained to not rush.

The Bottom Line

Pros
Great text, great setting
Cons
Easy to rush the tempo
