Allen Pote's setting of Psalm 23 is becoming a timeless gift to the hundreds of thousands of students who have sung this anthem over the past twenty-two years. Somehow, the music captures the essence of adolescence in this almost haunting setting. There is enough repetition to serve as sustaining reminders - almost the way parents have to keep assuring their teenagers over and over again that they are loved and that God has a plan for their lives. The repetition never feels like mere repetition - each is another manifestation of love and nurturing which students need to hear.

There is so much music and spiritual truth to be brought out of this anthem! We encourage all directors to study it, become vulnerable to its pathos, and teach it with your best musicianship and deepest commitment to Christ.
