True-to-form, Mark Patterson writes his original, beautiful melodies set to a text by American poet Howard Arnold Walter. Walter's text, originally titled "My Creed", sometimes sung to the tune of "Danny Boy" is one of strength, honor, humility, and purpo.

The opening solo of this piece is one virtually every young man in the choir wants to audition to sing. This is a strong and powerful piece of music, not only because of the musical considerations, but also because of what the text says. It has a tender, gentle quality along with the strength, which makes it very popular with my guy students and those who listen to this anthem. Well worth the hard work it takes to make is shine.

The Bottom Line

Pros
Fine arrangement; superb text for young men
Cons
Nothing negative, but it takes a good deal of work to make it sparkle
