It is impossible not to be inspired by this soul-stirring gospel original. The accompaniment is rock solid, and the choral parts are incredibly gutsy, with dramatic dynamic swells and accents that will shake the rafters! "Magnify the Lord with me and exalt His name together...Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!"

This SATB piece is flat-out choral gospel at its best. Accessible and joyful, it will be the director's job to insist on the crescendi and tiered dynamic markings being followed fully but with a controlled sound, to interpret the very detailed articulation markings for the true gospel style, and to maintain a steady driving tempo without rushing. Also required is a skilled pianist with good "gospel chops" and clean pedaling technique that will not stray from the director's leadership. In other words, the choir has to enjoy the piece, and the director must remain "in charge." It is accessible for most confident singers, and it will be a favorite for years to come.
The Bottom Line
Pros
A strong gospel piece with details that make it a choir and audience favorite.
