With a rolling piano accompaniment and a fresh take on the familiar melody, Joe Cox's arrangement is a delightful arrangement of the NETTLETON hymntune. Choirs will look forward to the few surprise cadences, which serve as text-painting for the theologically rich hymn text.

Written in 6/8 meter, this piece actually feels like it moves from triple to duple meter in every measure. Then, while the ladies keep up the same rhythmic flow, the men break away with a purely duple feel at the beginning of the third verse. While the metric element is a consideration regarding teachability, it also the primary reason this arrangement is so fresh and engaging and is a delight to perform. Rarely are SAB hymn arrangements this nice in so many ways.

The Bottom Line

Pros
This nice setting is both fresh and challenging.
Cons
The SAB choir that struggles with rhythm may find this overwhelming.
